Pet Odour & Urine Treatment across Teesside

The smell you can still smell after you've cleaned means bacteria still in the pile and underlay. We neutralise it at source — not a perfume over the top.

Why Pet Smells Come Back

You cleaned the accident. Blotted it, shampooed it, sprayed it with the bottle from the pet shop. Three weeks later the smell is back — strongest on a warm day or when you've had the heating on. Why?

Because surface cleaning never reached the source. Urine soaks through the carpet pile into the underlay and sometimes the floorboards. Bacteria in that soaked layer feed on the protein in the urine and release ammonia gas — which is what you're smelling. Carpet shampoo can't reach that deep. Deodorisers just mask it temporarily. The moment humidity rises, the smell comes back.

Proper pet odour treatment means getting cleaning agents all the way down to the contaminated layer, breaking down the bacteria and the salts they feed on, and extracting it cleanly. That's a different job from a regular carpet clean, and it needs different equipment and chemistry.

Fresh Tech provides specialist pet odour treatment across Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Ingleby Barwick, Yarm, Darlington and throughout Teesside.

Why Fresh Tech for Pet Odour Removal?

Source Treatment, Not Masking

Perfumes and deodorisers cover the smell for a day. We break down the bacteria and the uric-acid salts feeding them, so there's nothing left to smell when the carpet warms up again.

Enzyme-Based Treatment

We use enzyme solutions specifically formulated for pet urine and protein-based odours. Enzymes digest the organic matter rather than covering it — there's a biological process going on, not just a chemical rinse.

Underlay Assessment

Sometimes the carpet cleans fine but the underlay is saturated and needs lifting. We'll tell you honestly if that's the case — sometimes replacing a small area of underlay is cheaper than repeatedly treating a carpet that's sitting on a contaminated pad.

Pet and Family Safe

All our solutions are non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Safe for the pet that caused the problem, safe for the children who share the carpet, safe once dry — which is typically 2-4 hours.

Honest About What's Recoverable

Very old contamination, especially cat urine that's been left for months, sometimes can't be fully recovered from the original carpet and underlay. We'll assess and tell you before we start — not charge you for three treatments and then admit defeat.

Our Pet Odour Treatment Process

1. Locate the Sources

We use UV torches to find urine deposits you didn't know were there. Dry urine fluoresces under UV — a mapping pass before treatment is the difference between solving the problem and treating three spots while five untreated spots keep smelling.

2. Assess Depth of Contamination

We probe to see whether the contamination is just carpet, carpet + underlay, or has reached the subfloor. That determines the treatment — deeper contamination needs heavier intervention.

3. Enzyme Pre-Treatment

Enzyme solution applied to each source zone. Dwells for the time needed to digest the organic matter — enzymes work biologically, not instantly, so we let them do their job rather than rushing the extraction.

4. Deep Extraction

Hot water extraction with controlled water volumes — enough to flush out the dissolved contamination, not so much that we re-saturate the underlay.

5. Neutralising Rinse

pH-balanced rinse resets the carpet's chemistry. Anti-bacterial deodoriser as a final pass.

6. Dry and Re-Check

Airflow accelerates drying. Once dry, we re-check with the UV torch — if any fluorescence remains, we treat again.

Pet Odour Treatment FAQs

Can you actually remove pet urine smell from carpet?

In most cases yes, often completely. Fresh accidents clean out almost always. Deeper, older contamination — particularly if the underlay has absorbed urine over months — is harder and sometimes needs underlay replacement alongside carpet treatment. We assess honestly before starting.

Why does the smell come back after I've cleaned?

Because surface cleaning doesn't reach the underlay. Urine soaks through the pile into the pad beneath, bacteria feed on it and release ammonia. You've cleaned the carpet; the underlay is still a factory. Proper treatment gets through to that layer and breaks the cycle.

Do you just mask the smell with perfume?

No. Masking buys you a day or two and then the smell returns worse. We use enzyme treatments that digest the organic matter causing the smell — different chemistry, different outcome.

Is the treatment safe for my pet?

Yes. Non-toxic, environmentally friendly solutions — safe for pets and children once the carpet is dry. Keep pets out of the room during treatment and until the carpet is walkable (2-4 hours).

How long does it take?

Depends on how many contamination sites we find (UV mapping tells us). A single-room, single-incident treatment is 1-2 hours on site. Whole-house treatment for a long-term issue can be 3-4 hours.

How much does pet odour treatment cost?

Charged on job size rather than room count — a fresh single accident is much cheaper than deep multi-site contamination. Free quote after we've assessed with the UV torch. Honest pricing and honest assessment.

What if the underlay is contaminated?

We'll tell you honestly. In some cases enzymatic treatment through the carpet is enough. In others, the underlay needs lifting and replacing in the affected area — which we can coordinate. We won't charge for repeat treatments on a carpet whose underlay is the actual problem.

Can you treat cat spray?

Yes. Cat spray is particularly pungent because of the pheromones — not just urea. We use treatments formulated specifically for cat marking. Same enzyme principle, slightly different chemistry.
